BHALO MANUSH – ADAPTED FROM THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN
Forum theatre usually deals with a concrete situation of oppression. During the 7th International Forum Theatre festival in December 2016, for the first time Jana Sanskriti presented “Bhalo Manush” an adaptation of Brecht’s Good Person of Szechwan to a 1000+ rural audience in a village in Sunderbans where we attempted to forum about the idea of a “good person”. In this adaptation, the 3 gods were not mere moral teachers; rather they were propagators of critical thinking. This is a new experiment in addition to the existing dramaturgy of forum theatre. This attempt was well received by the audience. We are still continuing this experiment and further evolving the script along with the scenes.
